Yapsie is an informative social network website intended for pet owners. Users can search for many pet-related things in their community through Yapsie. The site provides a people, places and things search that includes pet friendly parks, beaches, bars, stores, restaurants and hotels. Users can also discover a local groomer, kennel, veterinarian, animal shelter, day care, walker, pet store, or training and obedience classes as well as other services. The site invites users to “yap” about their experience with various businesses by posting a review for other users to read. The item or business page includes contact and location information as well as all user reviews already posted for it. Users can also discover upcoming pet related events or create one of their own on Yapsie.

Yapsie was launched in December of 2010. The application was created to give pet owners a resource for finding pet friendly businesses and pet-related services and products. Yapsie was also intended to bring pet owners together in a social networking environment. Today, Yapsie continues to grow in popularity as more pet owners use it to share their pets on Facebook and explore pet friendly venues in their local area.

Yapsie is appealing because it caters entirely to pets and the people who love them. The site is not animal specific, although dogs and cats are quite popular. Users can not only learn about pet friendly places in their area, but also read and post reviews for those places to help other pet owners decide where to take their furry companions.

The Yapsie website invites users with a fun atmosphere featuring all manner of cute animals. The primarily color scheme features orange and blue. The site is very organized and includes minimal clutter. Pet owners can navigate using the four buttons at the top of the page or enter a location and keyword to find specific businesses, services or venues through the conveniently placed search bar, found right on the homepage.

A new user can join the Yapsie community by clicking on the small orange “Sign Up for Yapsie” link tucked under the search bar in the upper, right hand corner of the homepage. This directs the user to the registration form which requires a first and last name, email address, password and zip code. The user can enter their gender and date of birth as well, but this is not a requirement. The bottom of the form informs the user that by submitting their information they are automatically agreeing to the Yapsie terms of service and privacy policy.

Yapsie is available to anyone who is willing to create an account for free. There are no subscription fees or other charges for using any of the available features. Yapsie is still in a beta status, so it is possible that this could change further down the road. For now, anyone can enjoy Yapsie without paying for the opportunity. This is definitely a good thing to encourage more pet owners to use the site and participate in the Yapsie community.

Yapsie is intended for one large, diverse group: pet owners. Regardless of what type of pet a user owns, they can find information, share reviews and connect with other pet owners through Yapsie. The site has a very fun feel to it and offers many handy features for pets and their humans.
